The Line Between Investing and Gambling Is Thinner Than Most People Think
Nobody enters the crypto market thinking,
"I'm here to gamble."
Most people genuinely believe they're investing.
I know I did.
But over time, I realized that buying a token doesn't automatically make me an investor.
The reason behind the purchase is what matters.
If I buy a project because I've researched its fundamentals, understand the risks, and have a clear investment thesis, that's investing.
If I buy because someone on social media said it's "the next 100x," hoping I can sell to someone else at a higher price...
That's speculation.
And if I'm risking money I can't afford to lose without any real plan...
I have to be honest with myself.
That's getting dangerously close to gambling.
The interesting part is that the same asset can represent completely different things to different people.
One person buys Bitcoin after months of research and plans to hold for years.
Another buys it because they saw a post claiming it will double next month.
Same asset.
Completely different mindset.
I've learned that before every investment, it's worth asking myself a simple question:
"If someone asked me why I bought this, could I explain my reasoning in a few clear sentences?"
If the answer is no, I probably need to do more research.
The market doesn't reward us for calling every price movement correctly.
It rewards us for making thoughtful decisions consistently over time.
The longer I stay in crypto, the less interested I become in chasing excitement.
I'd rather build conviction than rely on hope.
Because conviction comes from understanding.
Hope comes from uncertainty.
And only one of those gives me confidence when the market becomes volatile.
Be honest with yourself: what's the biggest difference between investing and gambling in your opinion?
