Trump Announces He Is Ready for a Fourth Presidential Run, Wearing a Little Red Cap With “Trump 2028”: The Presidential Campaign—I've “got it handled,” and I will run again

Local time July 25, US President Donald Trump wore his signature little red cap with the words “Trump 2028” printed on it at a White House Correspondents’ Association dinner, announced an “exclusive scoop,” and said he would run again, preparing for a fourth campaign.

The latest poll released by US media on July 16 shows that Trump’s political situation regarding the Iran issue is continuing to deteriorate. Although Trump repeatedly portrays the comprehensive Iran nuclear deal reached during former President Obama’s administration as a “disaster,” and promises to roll out a “much better” deal, the US public generally feels pessimistic about his performance and prospects on Iran.

A recent poll conducted jointly by The Washington Post and Ipsos shows Trump’s overall approval rating is 37%, with 61% disapproving. Among them, the share of those who “strongly approve” Trump has fallen to a new low of 15%, below 19% in February.

With the US congressional midterm elections approaching, Trump’s disapproval rating on the Iran issue has risen to 69%. Among those surveyed, 68% said the war involving Iran is “not worth fighting,” a figure higher than the poll results previously recorded for the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. In addition, about 67% of respondents expressed no confidence that US military actions and the ongoing US-Iran negotiations can stop Iran from developing nuclear weapons.

Regarding prospects for the Iran nuclear deal, 37% of respondents believe the Trump administration’s deal will be worse than Obama’s, while 23% think it will be better. Even within the Republican Party, optimism remains very limited.

The poll also shows that US public sentiment about the economy is similarly bleak. About 67% of respondents expect the US economy to further worsen over the next year. Forty-three percent say their current living conditions are “worse” than when Trump returns to the White House, an increase of 10 percentage points from February. Meanwhile, about six in ten respondents doubt that US-Iran negotiations can bring gas prices down to pre-conflict levels.

This poll was conducted from July 8 to 13, with 2,648 US adults surveyed, and a margin of error of 1.9 percentage points.

According to CNN, the poll confirms in multiple ways that the Trump administration has failed to construct a plausible narrative for military action against Iran, and that this conflict is increasingly becoming Trump’s “political albatross.”

In June, the US and Iran remotely signed a memorandum of understanding. Iran then reopened the Strait of Hormuz, and the US immediately lifted its naval blockade. However, on June 26 the US resumed military strikes against Iran, citing Iran’s attacks on commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz. On July 13, Trump announced the restoration of a naval blockade against Iran.

On July 13, The New York Times reported that Trump has formally notified Congress that fighting between Iran and the two sides has reignited. The day after, in an interview with Fox News, Trump said that US military strikes against Iran would continue “until I say it’s enough.” #夏日创作营
