According to NEAR Protocol co-founder Illia Polosukhin in an interview with The Block on Monday, artificial intelligence is now enabling hackers to discover software vulnerabilities faster than traditional security reviews can patch them. Polosukhin argued that the traditional approach—having experienced developers manually review code—is no longer sustainable given the capabilities of newer AI models. He proposed formal verification, which mathematically proves code "does what it says it does," as a more effective solution. While historically expensive and labor-intensive, AI can now help generate most of the necessary proofs, which can then be independently verified. Project Tachyon, a Zcash initiative, demonstrated this approach by using AI-assisted verification to produce a mathematical proof in weeks rather than years.
