According to Gartner's April 2026 report, artificial intelligence is consuming a disproportionate share of global memory chip capacity, driving a phenomenon the research firm termed "Memflation"—combining "Memory" and "Inflation" to describe soaring memory prices. Memory revenue is forecast to surge from $216.3 billion in 2025 to $633.3 billion in 2026, nearly tripling. DRAM prices are projected to jump 125%, while NAND flash memory prices are forecast to climb 234%, according to the report by senior analyst Rajeev Rajput. Gartner estimates global semiconductor industry revenue will reach $1.3 trillion in 2026, growing 64% year-over-year, with AI-related chips accounting for roughly 30% of total revenue but driving the majority of growth.
