Anthropic CEO Calls for Government Power to Block High-Risk AI Model Deployments

According to CEO Dario Amodei, Anthropic released a policy position this week advocating that governments should have the power to prevent deployment of artificial intelligence models deemed to pose "unacceptable risks." Amodei published an essay calling for mandatory third-party testing of AI models to assess potential harms across multiple domains, comparing the regulatory approach needed to that of automobiles, aircraft, and pharmaceuticals. The company also released a new version of its Mythos model with network security attack capabilities removed, following earlier concerns about the original model's ability to identify and exploit critical software vulnerabilities.
