Apple and Samsung AI Services Cleared by Chinese Regulator; Baidu as Tech Partner

Apple and Samsung have received approval from China's internet regulator for on-device generative AI services, according to reports citing informed sources. The Cyberspace Administration of China recently disclosed seven new mobile AI service filings, with Samsung's Galaxy AI among the approved systems.

Baidu will serve as the primary AI partner for both companies, supporting Apple in developing AI-powered search capabilities that process images and text, while enhancing China's Siri voice assistant. For Samsung, Baidu's Ernie large language model will power Galaxy AI features including "circle-to-search" and note-taking assistance on flagship devices, while Samsung's Bixby voice assistant has integrated Baidu AI search capabilities.
