Cardano's Hoskinson Warns Bitcoin Could Lose Top Spot if Governance Fails Quantum Test on Friday

According to Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson in an interview Friday, Bitcoin could lose its position as the world's largest cryptocurrency if its governance structure proves unable to coordinate responses to quantum computing threats. With Bitcoin valued at roughly $1.3 trillion, Hoskinson argued that Bitcoin's inflexibility makes upgrades difficult. "If Bitcoin's governance is such that it's impossible to actually make meaningful progress, I don't think Bitcoin's going to stay the number one cryptocurrency," he said. Hoskinson contends Cardano's formal onchain governance and voting mechanisms position it better to address quantum-related risks through coordinated upgrades, including potential migration strategies if needed.
