China's Ministry of Commerce has expressed serious concerns over a recently enacted French law restricting ultra-fast fashion, noting that the legislation targets Chinese cross-border e-commerce platforms including Shein, Temu, and AliExpress with discriminatory restrictions.
Beijing argues the law violates WTO non-discrimination principles by adopting environmental and sustainability standards as a pretext for exclusionary measures, constituting a trade barrier against China. The ministry stated the legislation contradicts France's public commitments to fair competition and free trade, and will harm both Chinese enterprises and French consumers.
