Crypto Treasury Companies Abandoned Digital Assets for AI Infrastructure as Bitcoin Down 27% This Year

According to Bloomberg, companies that built their business strategies around holding Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies on their balance sheets are increasingly shifting toward AI infrastructure as digital asset prices have declined significantly through July 24. Bitcoin has dropped 49% from its October 2025 peak and was down 27% for the year through July 24, while Ether has fallen 38% in 2026.

At least a dozen digital-asset treasury firms have rebranded or pivoted to AI-related ventures in recent months. K Wave Media Ltd. shifted from Bitcoin accumulation to data center development, with shares falling 71% since May; AlphaTON Capital Corp. rebranded as Alpha Compute Corp. in April and fell 33%; and Lixte Biotechnology dropped 33% after agreeing to merge with a battery company in June. According to Bloomberg, U.S. and Canadian digital-asset treasury stocks have recorded a median decline of 43% since the start of the year.
