According to CertiK, crypto wrench attacks caused approximately $101 million in losses in the first four months of 2026. If the trend continues, this equates to hundreds of millions of dollars in losses for the full year. The security firm verified 34 global incidents during this period, a 41% increase from the same timeframe in 2025.
Europe accounted for 82% of attacks, with France recording 24 incidents. Notably, more than half of 2026's incidents targeted family members of primary victims, either as direct targets or leverage points. CertiK noted that attackers increasingly use data-driven targeting models, purchasing victim information from online brokers rather than relying solely on physical surveillance.
