According to Beating, in academic reproduction testing, GLM 5.2 achieved a cost of just $6.21 compared to Claude Opus 4.8 Max's $46.35 when replicating a self-distillation reinforcement learning paper. The open-source model required 14 failed runs before success, consuming 2.65 million tokens, while Opus completed the task after 9 failures using 4.53 million tokens, according to alphaXiv team's automated agent testing.
