Google Warns EU Data-Sharing Rules Could Re-Identify Users in Under 2 Hours

According to Reuters, Google researcher Sergei Vassilvitskii warned European Union regulators that proposed data-sharing rules could expose private user information. Google's internal red team demonstrated the ability to re-identify users in under two hours, raising concerns that current anonymization methods may be insufficient.

The European Commission last month ordered Google to share search ranking, query, click, and view data with competitors including OpenAI under the Digital Markets Act. EU regulators are expected to decide by July 27 on final measures. Companies failing to comply could face fines up to 10% of global annual revenue.
