According to The Block, Solana infrastructure firm Helius has acquired Light Protocol to focus on privacy solutions. Light Protocol, founded in 2021, originally aimed to bring zero-knowledge privacy to Solana before pivoting to ZK Compression, co-developed with Helius and launched in 2024. ZK Compression reduces data storage costs on Solana using zero-knowledge proofs. The acquisition returns Light to its original mission, combining its cryptography expertise with Helius's infrastructure to build a ZK-based protocol for private payments and decentralized finance on Solana. Helius plans to open the privacy infrastructure to developers in the coming months.
