Japan Removes Five-Type Restrictions on Weapons Exports, Expanding Defense Equipment Sales

Gate News message, April 21 — Japan's government decided today to abolish five-type restrictions on weapons exports, according to CCTV International News. Under the current Defense Equipment Transfer Three Principles framework, Japan had limited defense equipment exports to other nations to five categories focused primarily on logistics purposes, including rescue and transportation operations.

With these restrictions lifted, Japan's weapons export scope will effectively become unrestricted, potentially including lethal defense equipment that was previously prohibited.
