KOSPI Gains While KOSDAQ Declines This Year, Widening Asymmetric Divergence

According to Korea Exchange data as of July 18, South Korea's benchmark KOSPI index has risen while the secondary KOSDAQ index has declined, showing an asymmetric pattern this year. Large domestic semiconductor stocks like Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix have driven this divergence; when these stocks fall, both indices decline together, but during rallies KOSDAQ remains relatively sidelined. The concentration in semiconductor holdings has amplified the two markets' disconnect.
