According to Yonhapinfomax, on July 23, KT announced a plan to invest 5 trillion won over the next five years in AI data centers (AIDC) while leveraging approximately 3,500 telecom facilities nationwide as edge data centers to support physical AI expansion. KT CEO Park Yoon-young stated that physical AI infrastructure requires low-latency networks across diverse regions, and the company will deploy AI computing equipment at its nationwide offices to connect central AIDC with industrial sites. Separately, SK Telecom announced in June its plan to construct up to 15 gigawatts of AIDC capacity by 2035, with 5 gigawatts planned for domestic deployment starting from 2029.
