Mirae Asset Completes Acquisition of Korbit with 97.15% Stake on July 27

According to The Fact, Mirae Asset confirmed on July 27 that it completed the acquisition of 97.15% of Korbit, South Korea's fourth-largest cryptocurrency exchange by trading volume. The acquisition marks the first time a domestic traditional finance group has taken operational control of a virtual asset exchange.

Korbit, which holds approximately 0.5% market share in the Korean won-denominated crypto market, has recorded consecutive operating losses for eight years. Mirae Asset plans to pivot the platform away from retail trading competition toward serving institutional and corporate clients, building it as a digital asset infrastructure for professional investors rather than individual traders.
