Moonshot AI Open-Sources Kimi K3, 2.8 Trillion-Parameter Model, with 2.5x Improved Efficiency

According to Qbitai, on July 28, Moonshot AI announced the full open-sourcing of Kimi K3, its 2.8 trillion-parameter model—the world's largest open-source model by parameter count. The release came following the initial K3 launch on July 16, which saw user requests reach near cluster capacity within 48 hours.

Kimi K3 achieves 2.5x efficiency gains in computational output through technical innovations including Delta Attention and MoonEP. According to Osmantic AI CEO Ahmad, K3's operating costs run at approximately half to one-third of competing models such as Anthropic's Claude and OpenAI's GPT series, with potential reductions to one-tenth under cached queries.
