A New York state court judge has issued an order halting proceedings in a case seeking ownership of 39,069 dormant Bitcoin wallets, with a hearing scheduled for July 14 to address key legal arguments, according to reporting.

The plaintiffs, including a person using the pseudonym Noah Doe and two shell companies, sought to claim the wallets under New York's lost property law. An attorney filing an amicus brief argued that the law applies to tangible goods, not blockchain addresses, and that losing access due to technical issues differs from voluntary abandonment.
