Nodal Exchange to Launch 168 Hourly Power Futures Contracts on August 31

POWER0.05%

Nodal Exchange announced on July 20 that it plans to launch hourly power futures contracts on August 31, with 168 contracts covering seven major U.S. power regions. Each region will offer contracts for 24 hourly periods within a single day, supporting trading up to five business days ahead, enabling market participants to manage electricity positions on an hourly basis.

The new contracts will trade alongside the exchange's existing daily and monthly power futures contracts, creating a multi-period derivatives trading system. According to Paul Cusenza, chairman and CEO of Nodal Exchange, the hourly contracts fill a market gap for intraday price hedging tools, addressing the increased volatility and price fluctuations driven by expanding battery storage applications.
