OpenAI Releases Codex Migration Tool to Import Configurations from Competing AI Assistants

The tool, announced via OpenAI's official Twitter account, automatically transfers system prompts, custom skills, 30-day chat history, MCP server configurations, hooks, and sub-agent settings.

OpenAI noted that the migration tool handles most configurations automatically through an "Import other agent setup" option in Codex's settings. For incompatible settings, the tool initiates a guided conversation to assist users with manual migration. The company advised users to verify permissions and authentication settings after migration, as permission systems between platforms are not compatible.
