OpenAI Releases Three GPT-5.6 Models, Initially Restricts Access to Trusted Partners Per U.S. Government Requirement

According to OpenAI's official blog, the company released three new AI models—GPT-5.6 Sol, Terra, and Luna—on Friday (June 26), initially limiting access to "a small group of trusted partners" per U.S. government requirements. OpenAI stated it aims to fully roll out these models in the coming weeks, noting it has already demonstrated the models' capabilities to the U.S. government and explained its release plans. Sol is OpenAI's most powerful AI model to date, with significant capability improvements in programming and biology. The company said it took this short-term measure as the best path to expand access in the coming weeks.
