Russia Controls Two New Ukrainian Settlements on July 2; Ukraine Strikes Russian Oil Refineries in Counteroffensive

According to the Russian Defense Ministry on July 2, Russian forces took control of two new settlements in Ukraine. Ukrainian President Zelensky said Ukraine's military conducted a second strike on a Russian oil refinery in Ufa and a missile component factory in the Penza region. NATO Secretary General Rutte stated that NATO allies will commit to providing sustainable long-term security assistance to Ukraine at an upcoming summit, emphasizing the U.S. remains indispensable to Ukraine's defense.
