SemiAnalysis Dismisses 50% Datacenter Capacity Cancellation Claims on June 18, Says Market Panic Overstated

According to SemiAnalysis, a semiconductor industry research firm, claims that 50% of planned U.S. datacenter capacity will be canceled or delayed in 2026 are significantly overstated, with actual adjustments remaining limited. The firm reported on June 18 that its forecasts for North American hyperscaler self-built datacenter capacity have shifted by only approximately 1% over the past six months, while colocation facility capacity predictions have fluctuated less than 5%.

SemiAnalysis attributed the market panic primarily to misinterpretation of news releases by artificial intelligence tools and sampling bias in data aggregation. The firm noted that widely cited statistics citing "50% capacity delays" focus on early-stage speculative projects announced publicly, which lack actual land ownership, equipment orders, or grid connection agreements, rather than representing the full industry development pipeline. Through satellite imagery analysis, SemiAnalysis found that the top two hyperscalers alone have more than 5GW of capacity under construction in the U.S., exceeding estimates in commonly referenced reports.
