Small U.S. Businesses Challenge Trump's Tariffs on 60 Trade Partners, Citing Lack of Evidence

According to lawsuits filed by small businesses with the U.S. International Trade Court in Manhattan on July 24, Trump's new tariff measures announced that day faced immediate legal challenges. The tariffs, ranging from 10% to 12.5%, target approximately 60 trade partners and cover 99% of U.S. imports, implemented under the 1974 Trade Act's Section 301.

The plaintiffs, including toy company Learning Resources and spice importer Burlap and Barrel, argue the government failed to establish sufficient evidence for individual economies or explain how the tariffs will eliminate forced labor practices. Liberty Justice Center, representing the businesses, criticized the government for simply renaming a legal framework after the Supreme Court invalidated prior tariffs, stating the administration bypassed proper legal procedures.
