SoftBank Secures $1.75B Loan for ABB Robotics Unit Acquisition

According to Bloomberg, a consortium of banks wrapped up a $1.75 billion-equivalent term loan on July 21 to fund SoftBank Group Corp.'s $5.375 billion acquisition of ABB Ltd.'s robotics division. The debt package comprises an $800 million U.S. tranche and a €825 million (approximately $944 million) European tranche, priced at a 425 basis point margin over benchmark rates and 98.5 cents on the dollar. BNP Paribas, Goldman Sachs, HSBC, and Mizuho Financial Group arranged the loan. The transaction, signed in October 2025, remains subject to regulatory approvals with closing expected in mid-to-late 2026.
