Sony Bank Secures Conditional OCC Approval to Establish U.S. Trust Bank, Issue Dollar-Backed Stablecoin

According to its July 6 statement, Sony Bank received conditional OCC approval to establish a U.S. trust bank subsidiary. The company plans to create Connectia Trust this month with $40 million in capital to issue and manage a dollar-denominated stablecoin. Connectia Trust is expected to launch in 2027 pending final regulatory approval, with the stablecoin intended for use by U.S. customers purchasing video games, anime, subscriptions, and other digital content across Sony's ecosystem.
