South Korea Plans to Extend GPU Subsidy Program With Budget Up to 4 Trillion Won in 2027

According to ETNews Electronics, South Korea's government is considering extending its "AI Computing Resources Utilization Foundation Strengthening Project" beyond its originally planned end this year. On July 7, the Ministry of Science and ICT announced plans to expand GPU procurement and deployment at major cloud service providers' data centers. The government invested 1 trillion won in 2025 and 2 trillion won in 2026, securing over 20,000 GPUs. Industry estimates suggest the 2027 budget could reach approximately 4 trillion won. Rising demand for advanced GPUs like Nvidia's Vera Rubin is driving the extension, though equipment installation space has become a critical bottleneck as high-performance GPUs require substantial power and cooling infrastructure.
