South Korea Raises Minimum Deposit for Single-Stock Leveraged Products to 30M Won Starting August 5

According to Kmib, South Korea's financial authorities announced on July 20 enhanced regulations on single-stock leveraged products, effective August 5. The core measure increases the minimum cash deposit requirement from 10M won to 30M won for new or additional purchases of single-stock leveraged products, applying to both domestic and overseas-listed products. The policy aims to reduce excessive competition and protect retail investors. However, retail investors have protested that the higher deposit threshold blocks their ability to average down (add to losing positions) during market downturns, a common risk-management strategy for leveraged traders. Some financial experts warned that averaging down during declines could amplify losses rather than reduce them.
