South Korea's Transport Minister Expresses Caution on Easing FAR Rules for Redevelopment on July 27

According to Yonhap Infomax, on July 27, South Korea's Land, Infrastructure and Transport Minister Kim Yoon-deok expressed caution about easing floor area ratio (FAR) regulations for private redevelopment projects, citing concerns that such measures could stimulate the real estate market and drive up housing prices. At a national real estate policy forum in Seoul, Kim noted that while FAR relaxation is typically viewed as a way to accelerate housing supply, the demolition effect from redevelopment could paradoxically boost property values. The minister also clarified that the government recognizes the importance of private housing supply and plans to expedite construction permits while converting commercial buildings and knowledge industry centers into residential units.
