SpaceX to Launch Retail Starlink Mobile Service, Competing Against Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile

According to four people familiar with the matter, SpaceX plans to launch a retail Starlink mobile service for US consumers, marking a significant expansion into the multibillion-dollar mobile network market. Gwynne Shotwell, SpaceX's president and chief operating officer, disclosed the plans during a recent IPO roadshow, stating the company is considering a direct-to-consumer mobile offering and could build its own terrestrial mobile network. The move would pit Starlink directly against the three major US carriers: Verizon Wireless, AT&T, and T-Mobile. To date, SpaceX has primarily partnered with telecom companies, allowing them access to Starlink satellites to supplement coverage in rural areas. A direct retail offering would represent one of Starlink's most significant commercial expansions since its satellite broadband launch across more than 150 countries.
