According to Reuters, Synopsys, a U.S. chip design software company, notified more than 10 chipmakers of plans to discontinue new versions of chip manufacturing analytics tools in April and May, shifting affected products to maintenance support instead. The tools monitored equipment health and detected faults; customers include Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, Kioxia Holdings, and Qorvo.
The company laid off a few dozen employees as part of a resource shift toward higher-margin AI design offerings. Synopsys said it will honor existing contracts. Samsung confirmed it has compatible alternatives and expects no negative impact on production.
