Tech Giants Slash Buybacks 80% From Peak, Q1 Spending Hits Decade Low at $9B

According to Bloomberg statistics, Alphabet, Amazon, Meta, Microsoft, and Oracle cut combined stock buybacks to approximately $9 billion in the first quarter, marking the lowest level in nearly a decade and down more than 80% from the 2021 peak of around $50 billion. Meta halted buybacks entirely in Q1, compared with $12.75 billion repurchased in the same period last year. Among the four largest AI spenders, Microsoft remains the only company continuing buyback operations.
