Tesla, SpaceX Slip 1% Overnight as Musk Warns AI Production Shortfall 'Insane'; Apple Raises MacBook Prices Up to $300

According to Elon Musk's comments on X, overnight late Thursday, shares of Tesla and SpaceX slipped 1%, with TSLA down 6% for the week and SPCX down 17%, as Musk warned that AI demand is far outpacing production. "The production shortfall relative to demand is insane. MUCH higher production is needed," Musk said, responding to Apple CEO Tim Cook's warning to The Wall Street Journal that component costs had surged unlike anything he had seen "in any area in over 40 years."

Apple raised prices across MacBook and iPad models on Thursday to offset surging memory and storage costs driven by AI data center expansion. The MacBook Pro 1TB rose from $1,699 to $1,999, the MacBook Air 512GB from $1,099 to $1,299, the iPad Pro WiFi 256GB from $999 to $1,199, and the iPad Air 128GB from $599 to $749. Cook told WSJ the surge was a "hundred-year flood" and that Apple could no longer fully shield consumers from the cost spike.
