U.S. Proposes International Coalition to Ensure Safe Passage Through Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday

According to the Wall Street Journal, the U.S. government on Tuesday proposed forming an international coalition called the Maritime Freedom Construct to facilitate safe passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz. The U.S. State Department outlined the initiative in an internal cable to embassies, calling on American diplomats to urge foreign governments to sign related agreements. The coalition, led by the United States, will share information, coordinate diplomatically, and enforce sanctions. Operations will be jointly conducted by the State Department and U.S. Central Command, with the former serving as the diplomatic coordination hub and the latter providing real-time maritime situational awareness to commercial shipping and coordinating information sharing among allied military forces.
