According to Windward Maritime Analysis on July 23, two tankers near the Strait of Hormuz are suspected of leaking oil, with satellite imagery revealing spillage patterns drifting toward Iran's Larak and Qeshm islands. The eastern tanker is the Kavo Malias, which caught fire following an attack near the strait on July 20. The vessel was reportedly empty at the time, suggesting leaked material is likely ship fuel rather than crude oil or cargo.
The western tanker remains unidentified after disabling its automatic identification system. According to satellite analysis, the vessel has remained in the same waters since May 2026, with suspected oil traces observed in surrounding areas.
