UK Jails Two Scattered Spider Hackers for TfL Attack Tied to $115M Crypto Ransom Scheme

According to London's Woolwich Crown Court, hackers Thalha Jubair, 20, and Owen Flowers, 18, were jailed for five years and six months each on July 16 over a 2024 attack on Transport for London's network. The intrusion, traced by the National Crime Agency and City of London Police, is separately linked by US prosecutors to a $115 million crypto ransom scheme involving at least 120 network intrusions across 47 US entities. Jubair and Flowers infiltrated TfL's systems between August 31 and September 3, 2024, forcing 28,000 employees to reset passwords and causing £29 million in losses. A US complaint charges Jubair with conspiracy to commit computer fraud and money laundering, carrying a potential 95-year sentence.
