According to defense industry sources, the U.S. Defense Department and Navy issued requests for information (RFI) on July 8 to Korean shipbuilders regarding combat ship and medium-sized oiler construction capabilities. The move marks the Trump administration's Korea-U.S. shipbuilding cooperation initiative (MASGA), agreed at a scale of $150 billion, entering the operational phase. The three major Korean shipbuilders—HD Hyundai, Hanwha Ocean, and Samsung Heavy Industries—have begun responding to the inquiry.
