U.S. Import Prices Rise 0.3% in June, Defying Market Forecast of -0.7% Decline

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, June's import price index rose 0.3% month-over-month on July 17, contrary to market expectations of a 0.7% decline. Year-over-year, import prices climbed 7.1%, marking the highest increase since August 2022.

Non-fuel import prices gained 0.4%, offsetting a 0.4% decline in fuel and lubricant imports. Among finished goods, import capital equipment, including semiconductors and industrial machinery, increased 0.4%.
