U.S. Regulators Miss July 18 Deadline to Finalize GENIUS Act Stablecoin Rules

According to The Block, U.S. regulators missed the July 18 deadline to finalize stablecoin rules required under the GENIUS Act, which was signed into law on July 18, 2025. As of July 18, 2026, major rules from the OCC, FDIC, NCUA, and Treasury Department remain in proposal or public comment phases, with some Federal Reserve and anti-money laundering regulations still under consultation. The legislation contains no automatic extension provision, meaning critical stablecoin framework rules will now be finalized after the statutory deadline.
