Amazon Requires Sellers to Label AI-Generated People in Product Images After New York Law

AMZN-4.56%
According to CNBC, Amazon informed third-party sellers on Wednesday of a new policy requiring them to label any product images or videos containing "AI-generated people" with specific metadata keywords before upload. The move follows New York's law, which took effect last month, mandating disclosure when advertisements feature "synthetic performers"—digitally created media appearing as real people. Amazon clarified the requirement applies only to photorealistic AI-generated people, not to content featuring TV, video game, or movie characters, or real people altered with AI. The company will add an indicator to listings informing consumers when images contain AI-generated people, where applicable.
