Gate News message, April 29 — Cognition, the AI coding startup behind Devin, announced on April 29 that it will establish Singapore as its Asia-Pacific headquarters to oversee regional expansion across Southeast Asia, Australia, India, and South Korea.
Richard Spence will lead APAC operations from Singapore, with the company planning to open an office in the central business district later in 2026. The move follows Cognition's entry into Japan and its acquisition of Singapore startup Havana, whose team will contribute to regional engineering and product development. Cognition has also acquired Windsurf, an AI coding startup with $82 million in annual recurring revenue and approximately 350 enterprise customers. The company raised $400 million at a $10.2 billion valuation, with reports of another funding round near a $25 billion valuation.
Cognition cited early adoption success in the region, noting that Singaporean bank OCBC is using its platform for software development and has achieved productivity gains of up to 30%.
