According to Dragonfly partner Haseeb Qureshi on July 14, the feared "AI hacker apocalypse" in DeFi has not materialized, as median per-attack losses have declined to below $500,000 in 2026 compared to over $2 million in 2025, despite a record number of attack incidents. While AI-assisted attackers are currently targeting smaller protocols with weaker security, larger DeFi protocols have strengthened their defenses. Excluding the 2025 Bybit theft and major 2026 attacks on KelpDAO and Drift Protocol, average monthly losses in 2026 remain lower than the prior year.
