Ethereum Hits $4,900 ATH in August 2025 but Fails to Break $5,000, Former Foundation Researcher Cites Lack of Value Narrative

According to Ansgar Dietrichs, former Ethereum Foundation researcher and current director of Ethlabs, Ethereum hit a new all-time high of $4,900 in August 2025 but failed to break through the $5,000 psychological barrier. Speaking on journalist Laura Shin's Unchained podcast, Dietrichs stated that the primary reason ETH has been unable to surpass $5,000 over the past five years is the lack of a clear value narrative. He noted difficulty in articulating ETH's true role as an entity today. Dietrichs added that one of Ethlabs' core objectives, which he co-founded with five other former Ethereum Foundation researchers, is to establish clarity on ETH's purpose and future direction.
