Ethereum Proposes Native UTXO Reducing State by 99.8%; Hoskinson Accuses of Copying Cardano Model

According to Bitcoin.com News, Ethereum Foundation researcher Toni Wahrstätter proposed native unspent transaction outputs (UTXOs) this month that could cut permanent state use by 99.8%. Cardano co-founder Charles Hoskinson immediately responded, accusing the proposal of copying Cardano's Extended UTXO (EUTXO) model—developed over a decade—without credit. Hoskinson argued that Cardano's EUTXO enables deterministic transaction execution, a key competitive advantage, while Ethereum's account-based model cannot easily replicate this. The proposal remains in research phase with no formal Ethereum Improvement Proposal (EIP) filed yet.
