Figma 2026 AI Report Shows Developer Design Participation Jumps to 60% from 44% in One Year

According to Figma's 2026 AI Report released today, developer participation in design work surged to 60% from 44% in a single year, while designers engaging in development work nearly doubled from 21% to 41%. The report, based on 8,403 survey responses and 639 qualitative interviews across ten markets, reveals that AI is dissolving role boundaries between disciplines. 70% of product builders report using AI to accomplish tasks outside their original skillset, with over 50% abandoning linear handoffs entirely.

Countering assumptions that AI diminishes design's value, 90% of respondents building AI-powered products say design is at least as important as before, and 57% say it is more important. The report identifies that 76% of product builders now conduct at least half their work on the design canvas, positioning it as a shared workspace for cross-functional teams rather than a designer-exclusive tool.
