Grok Drops to 8.7% Market Share in June from 10.6%, Meta AI Rises to Fourth Place

According to Apptopia, an app analytics firm, Grok's U.S. market share declined to 8.7% in June from 10.6% in May, with daily active users (DAU) falling 28% since April, according to recent data released in June 2026. Meta AI surpassed Claude to claim fourth place in the generative AI chatbot market, while ChatGPT maintained its leading position, followed by Google Gemini and Anthropic's Claude.

Despite the user decline, Grok retains a high proportion of heavy users, with 57% classified as high-frequency users. As DAU decreases, the share of heavy users has risen, indicating that departing users are primarily casual or occasional users rather than loyal ones. Apptopia analyst Adam Blacker noted that growing numbers of Grok users simultaneously use Claude and ChatGPT, reflecting increased cross-platform adoption.
