This week brings a critical test for U.S. equities, with Microsoft and Meta scheduled to report earnings on Wednesday (July 29) after the close, followed by Apple and Amazon on Thursday (July 30). The same Wednesday, the Federal Reserve will announce its interest rate decision, with markets currently pricing in roughly a 30% probability of a rate hike.

Around 34% of S&P 500 constituents will report earnings this week. Implied volatility for Meta is expected to hit 7.4% post-earnings, Amazon 6.6%, and Microsoft 6.4%, while the overall S&P 500 implied volatility stands near 1.85%. Goldman Sachs has recommended clients increase hedging positions. Earlier earnings from Alphabet, which raised its 2026 capital expenditure guidance to $195–205 billion, and Tesla, which missed second-quarter non-GAAP earnings expectations, underscore investor concerns about whether mega-cap tech companies' massive AI investments will deliver adequate returns.
