Freeport-McMoRan Confirms Extended Mining Rights in Indonesia, Targets Grasberg Deep Exploration Post-2041

XCU-2.39%

According to Freeport-McMoRan's Q2 earnings call, Chairman Richard C. Adkerson confirmed the company's commitment to extending its mining rights in Indonesia through partnership with PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI). Adkerson cited successful June meetings with Indonesian President and top officials, who recognized the importance of the extension for local economy, employment, and U.S.-Indonesia relations. The extension will unlock deep exploration of the Grasberg resource post-2041, which Adkerson noted has consistently proven larger than previously anticipated since its 1988 discovery.

Adkerson reiterated Freeport's strategic goal to maintain its position as the world's leading copper producer.
