Indonesia Plans to Use AI in $15 Billion Free Meals Program Through 2029

According to Reuters, Indonesia plans to use artificial intelligence in government programs between 2026 and 2029, including its $15 billion free meals scheme, under a draft presidential regulation awaiting President Prabowo Subianto's signature. The AI would assist in designing local menus, monitoring kitchen hygiene, predicting demand, and detecting irregularities. The program targets 83 million children and pregnant women, having reached 62 million beneficiaries by April 30, 2026. The initiative comes after more than 10,000 children suffered food poisoning, prompting efforts to improve transparency and food safety oversight.
